Groundwork to me is a lot more than lunging a horse. It starts with getting your horses out of their stall/pasture and does not end until you leave the barn.

Reading horses, both in their movement and their emotions is crucial to being a successful horse trainer. Having excellent timing is everything, whether working on the ground or in the saddle. I can distinguish between a playful kick and genuine fear. Staying calm, maintaining self-regulation, and never taking a horse’s behavior personal is key when working with these precious beings. I recognize subtle signs of discomfort, joy, tension, or confusion and use horsemanship techniques that help create a versatile, trusting partnership between horse and rider.
Being a certified bodyworker is a major asset as a horse trainer. It helps identify the most beneficial movements and training techniques to keep your horse sound and healthy. Bodywork helps to spot early signs of physical discomfort or imbalance, allowing for timely adjustments that support long-term performance and well-being.
Rehab and Strength Training
Especially after an injury, it is important to start slow and listen to your horse’s body. Strengthening muscles, ligaments, and tendons gradually is crucial.
